GM Missionary, Lydia Johnson, Helping Pacific Islander Women Do Theology
“Sometimes I find it a bit daunting to know how to convey to the wider church in North America the sense of excitement, urgency and vision I feel working with the women of Manahine Pasefika. For those of you who may not yet be familiar with Manahine, it is a new association of Pacific Islander women-doing-theology, who aspire to ‘make their voices heard' in a prophetic way in the churches and communities of Oceania. And it is the first network of church women whose mission is to write and publish…” To read more, click here: Manahine Pasefika
GM Committed to Empowering Women in the Democratic Republic of Congo
“Two sewing machines and two pairs of scissors. That's all it took to inspire creation of the Center for Training in Cutting and Sewing (CFCC) in Lotumbe, DRC. A year later, the center now has ten sewing machines, 10 pairs of scissors, 10 tape measures, five irons, 10 plastic chairs, one wooden wardrobe, spare parts and accessories. More important, the center points with pride to four graduates of the first sewing course. Each woman was allowed to purchase a sewing machine on credit to put into practice the training received…” To read more, click here: Center for Training in Cutting and Sewing
Community of Hope UCC in Tulsa, Oklahoma Shares Successful Partnership
“Though Community of Hope, UCC is well-known in the Tulsa area for its social justice efforts, we desire to reach beyond our walls. From the beginning of our life together in 1993, we have had a relationship with Central America. It is from our companeros there that we have learned about base communities and liberation theology. Since 1999 we have been building and nurturing a relationship with the people of Chacraseca, Nicaragua. Our mission with Chacraseca includes sending one or more teams each year to spend time working and playing with our companeros there….” To read more, click here: Community of Hope UCC
