July 10

  • Portland First to have dinner and make sandwiches for feeding program
  • Murray Hills for Harp Concert to raise funds for Food Pantry on site
  • Retreat Center for worship and sleeping

July 11

  • Corvallis First Christian Stone Soup to help serve and learn about the ministries with the houseless in Corvallis
  • Murray Hills to learn about the Food Pantry and take a tour
  • Food, Inc. movie to learn about the North American food supply
  • Dinner at Cafe Yumm to experience a business begun in a Farmer's Market
  • Back to Retreat Center to make plans for next day's menu, worship and sleeping

July 12

  • Worship at Calvary Christian in Portland and tour of facility and summary of on site ministries
  • Some went to deliver sandwiches to the in the park feeding program
    and others went to grocery shop for evening meal using the principles learned in the movie, Food, Inc.
  • Drove to Salem First where we fixed an evening meal with local foods for the Interfaith Hospitality Network at the local Presbyterian Church
  • Back to retreat center for the night for worship and sleeping

July 13

  • Silverton First to learn about their Wednesday night community dinners
  • Salem First to visit Meals on Wheels site and to eat lunch with the Director of the program. Learned about hunger and seniors in Oregon
  • To Community Garden site run by local church to hear about this ministry, gleaning and farmer's boxes
  • Albany First to learn about the fundraiser, Harvest of Hope for local ministries
  • Lebanon First Soup Kitchen to tour and learn about the history of the kitchen.
  • Met with local author and church member, Nancey West, who signed copies of her book, Miracles Among Us about the soup kitchen.

July 14

  • Packed up and talked about next steps for each of us in sharing what we have learned and using $50 each in seed money for a project locally.
